The "Cycle Of Violence" Commission Series

I'm very honored to be currently participating as dramaturg in a week-long workshop of a new play by Tira Palmquist, commissioned by the good people of the Lower Depth Theatre Ensemble as part of their Cycle of Violence Series. The play investigates the current crisis of sex trafficking; telling the stories of the victims - both men and women - caught up in this world and examining the effect these crimes have both on individuals and on society as a whole.

Scenes from the play-in-progress will be read on the evening of July 14 along with a screening of the new documentary on the subject, "I Am Jane Doe." The film chronicles the epic battle that several American mothers are waging on behalf of their middle-school daughters, victims of sex trafficking on Backpage.com, the classified advertising website that for years was part of the iconic Village Voice.
